Born in California
It all started with my overseas stay after completing my training as an advertising salesman in 2004 in Los Angeles and working there as a production assistant in a small advertising film production. During those six months, I was not only able to improve my English but also work on the realization of commercials for Mercedes, BurgerKing, WEST, and several others.
Besides many new impressions in the land of unlimited possibilities, my possibilities were limited. The whole thing was unpaid, and my savings were running out. So, on to new earning opportunities. But buying used surfboards and bicycles and selling them to tourists was not really effective, and subsisting on white bread with ketchup was not particularly tasty either.
So I came up with the idea of selling spare parts from old US classics on the German market. I thought it couldn't be easier than that. After all, there was already Ebay back then. So I went around the numerous workshops in the Los Angeles area and tried to convince the owners to reserve the unused spare parts for me for a certain period. Buying without money was difficult. Not too many were convinced of the German-Idea, but there were a few spare parts in the end. So I quickly photographed them and put them on Ebay.
The response was sobering. Were they the wrong parts? The price too high, or simply no demand? Nothing happened, at first. I abandoned this new source of income and tried my hand at computer hardware and software with my "new customers" I met playing chess at "The Coffee Bean" and in "Rick's Tavern" on Mainstreet. Weeks later, there was an inquiry (however the spare part could have been found), asking if the part was still available. Unfortunately, it was too late; the deal with the workshops was off. The demand was too late or the offer simply not at the right time. But the problem had to be solved. If I knew which parts were needed, I could specifically search for them.
I kept thinking about it, discarding it, rethinking it, and going in endless circles on how to implement it. The Internet was still relatively young, and so was I, and without any notable programming skills, apart from a bit of HTML with try and error.
Back in Germany, I continued to work for film and television productions, starting as a production driver, then as a props assistant, and later as an assistant set manager. Always with the idea in mind, more or less. In 2009, I became self-employed as a personal assistant to fulfill customers' wishes in a different segment, and maybe there was a potential investor among my new customers. I told everyone about my idea.
I delivered a sauna to Corsica, booked Santa Clauses, dog-sat, repaired garage doors, organized private parties, helicopter tours, or escort drives on the Nürburgring. Almost everything was included. Just no investor. And in 2015, a customer ordered me to sell a 1968 Ford Mustang Convertible. However, I couldn't bring myself to give it to a stranger, so I bought the beautiful car, even though it was only a four-cylinder, myself.
My tinkering activities began (I wouldn't call it a career), as the heat exchanger was leaking and needed a replacement. Now I was faced with the problem again: which one is the right one and where do I get it? After some tedious and time-consuming research, I finally found it and realized that I was now on the other side. As a buyer without a suitable platform and no one interested in my spare part requests. So I kept thinking, discarding, rethinking, and going in endless circles.

Instead of seeing a doctor for my visions (as recommended by Helmut Schmidt), I sold the Ford Mustang a year later and founded SuperBuy GmbH from the proceeds to solve the buyer-seller problem. And as fate would have it, the Internet was older, so was I, but still not a programmer. So, of course, I paid my tuition fees beyond the initial capital and continued to invest every saved cent in the implementation without significant progress until 2021. It couldn't have been progress to be on the verge of personal bankruptcy in 2021.
Apparently, I had collected some karma points over the last few years, so I was allowed to move out of my 68 square meter rental apartment after six years, and the owner made this step easier with a six-figure sum. With these "new" opportunities, I paid off my debts and focused on my vision. I would regret it in old age if I had never tried.
And as fate would have it: thinking, discarding, rethinking, paying tuition fees. But progress was made in slow steps until the turning point in June 2023. I met my new Chief Technology Officer, Florian Liebig, who has been supporting me as a co-founder ever since. Many, many thanks again this way, Florian, I wouldn't make it without you!
